“My father was crippled with arthritis. He wore long-sleve shirts and long pants, the only thing I ever really saw become crippled were his hands. I remember holding them and thinking they would break if I squeezed too hard, he was always telling me that is was ok to squeeze them up until the day he died. He was an inventor, a carpenter and my own personal dictionary, he could construct anything I ever wanted to play with or what was needed for our home. I saw his hands work magic.”
Hands have fascinated me for years. Back in the 1980s I created surrealistic drawings of hands, I was in love. And the fascination has continued over the years. I started creating books of series… I drew 100 trees and added a haiku to each, and now I’ve created 50 paintings of hands, 8×8 just the right size for my hand to be outlined. I’ve also created bottles with hands drawn on them. AND jewelry of hands.
