SOLD: Window Between Worlds Charity Auction Oct. 26th

window-between-worldsOctober 26; 7-10pm.

A Window Between Worlds is a nonprofit organization dedicated to using art to help end ross-karrie-together-awbw-72domestic violence. Through creative expression, battered women and children gain a sense of renewal and power. Their images of hope, survival and strength educate the public and become “a window between worlds” for survivors taking steps to change their lives.

An elegant and heartfelt affair featuring a unique opportunity to collect art by established and emerging Los Angeles-based artists created especially for this event.

The piece I submitted was two hands reaching/touching. Was the first to sell to a very nice collector. Thank you.

City & Self curated by Mat Gleason; Group show

City & Self curated by Mat Gleason; Group show

I will have two pieces in the one-night-only art event at Red Pipe Gallery, “City & Self” featuring 30+ LA artists who have created new works over a 3-week period to celebrate their experience of “life in the ‘city’ and the ‘self’ within it.”  A broad spectrum of perspectives, styles, and mediums will be on display. The show is curated by Mat Gleason.

Seems that every time I set out to paint a 6″x6″ it turns out really awful but the 8″x8″ did work. So when I was given the project of creating two… yes two 6″x6″ I nearly ran to the hills… I admit, I did at least 3 trys to no success then… I decided I didn’t have to take the theme literally and once the “box” was broken… “City & Self” just happened…

I chose to use a more collage / assemblage technique to example my feelings for “City & Self” instead of using my drawing or painterly styles. I used a mixture Continue reading

My Vision of Peace
2013 has had it’s share of violence. When I saw this page in the local news I knew I had to add it to the 50 Hand paintings I was doing. Hands are such a powerful symbol. They help and hinder and show the way. This hand is raised, raised to Continue reading

The work I’m showing is a combining of series. I’ve found that there comes a time when a painting is getting old…then “What do I do with it…now?”  is the question. I used to ‘paint over’ with a new series but this time I wanted to preserve the older one so I tried

Red Dot: no name yet but looking good 36 x 24

I’m putting together another show for October… and painting and drawing my trees and what shows up… but a bunch of Follow The Red Dot paitings… I’m thinking they are going to make it to the show too.

For this one I took an older painting I wasn’t happy with and started fresh with the layers from the previous one showing through giving the texture I like to add in layering. I’m imagining trees on this somewhere so it’s trees and red dot… will post new image once finished.

Here’s one of the medium sized ones at 36 x 24

Trees are all around us. They are alive. “Hug a tree!” we’re told… and we do.
Los Angeles has a MillionTreesLA.com project that has inspired me to create my own world of trees…some walk, some sing, some remind us of times past. AND they are speaking hiakus. “My Trees Talking”  brings to light the hidden life of trees. Through my vision and whimsical perspective combining artwork and the written word. TREEs you want to HUG will come alive for you. These trees will not crystalize your thoughts, they are not architecturally rendered; they are not assaulting or disruptive, inanimate or recycled visions of times past. “My Trees Talking” are extremely present and attentive to life in the everyday moment you breathe…and the action of breath is what connects all living things.

I ask a lot of questions. That is how I get in the mood to create artwork. Every piece of art has the action of researching a question. Some ask. Others answer. My focus is on the energy of the process, the how, the why, the who.

The research for my October show led me to the “Million Trees LA” project and I learned that so far they have helped distribute and plant around 350,000 trees to date. Wow… beautifying LA and trees… how much better can it be…. So, I decided to make, “TREES” the focus and imagery for my show!

I then pushed the process to form a question, and decided to explore it more. My thoughts went to the “My ____ Talking” series of books I’m writing, then I asked, “How can I work another book Continue reading
